What is Pride?
Pride is the celebration of self-affirmation, human rights achievements, dignity, and equal rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. Pride is also a form of protest of the status quo, where thousands of people walk the streets representing the whole LGBTQ+ community. Pride gatherings have in fact achieved important steps towards legal rights and freedom of unrepresented communities with their pacifist marches in colorful pridewear. The best way to wear a unique pride outfit is by making your own. And it turns out to be the most sustainable way as well.

Upcycle your pridewear
The best way to wear a unique pride outfit is by making your own.
And it turns out to be the most sustainable way as well.
Get creative by upcycling your pridewear customizing old pride outfits or clothes you don’t wear anymore with material you find in your house. You will save money and unnecessary waste and you can claim (with pride!) that you made your own outfit! If you can’t sew, a hot glue gun can do wonders in patching together awe-inspiring pridewear. You can easily find biodegradable glue or compostable adhesivesto go plastic free.

If you want new pridewear, buy something you’ll use again.
If you are tight in time and not feeling crafty, you can buy new pridewear. Please be mindful to buy something that you really like and can wear on other occasions. The more clothes are used the longer we keep them out of the landfill.
Try to imagine pairing your pride outfits with other pieces you own for a special night out. It can create really interesting combinations and mute the boldness of the pride colors. Go for clothes made with natural fiber for a plastic free look.

Going plastic free also means avoiding buying cheap polyester clothes that you throw away after use. There are plenty of amazing sustainable brands that you can choose for your pridewear. With high quality materials ethically sourced and made to last, these brands operate with environment and people in mind. Our suggestion is go all in with fun accessories to complement your pridewear like the Celebrate Diversity Socks.

Say no to glitter, balloons and beads on your pridewear.
We all love to add some shine and fun to our pridewear. However glitter, balloons and beads contain plastic. Glitter in particular, when washed down the drain, pollutes water with micro-plastic that can damage marine life.
Thankfully there are biodegradable plastic free options for glitter in the market, like Prjkt Glitter, that you can choose in order to wear your pride sustainably.
