The premium brand Magnum ice cream has partnered with the Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen to create a wearable and vegan dress made of coco beans and upcycled organza. The dress first debuted at Paris Fashion Week on July 4th of this year and was modeled by Cindy Bruna. This dress was inspired by Magnum’s array of vegan ice cream and is also a part of Iris van Herpen’s collection titled “Meta Morphism.” This collection explores society’s new and evolving journey into the Metaverse and the world of digitalism. Iris Van Herpen continuously deconstructs and blurs the lines of reality and digitalism with futuristic and avant-garde designs that embody delicacy, intricacy, and sustainability.

Creating the Vegan Dress
With the help of 3D printing technology and the processing of cocoa bean husks, the foundation of the dress was made from entirely organic biopolymer material. It is the first haute couture dress to be created from cocoa bean husks. In addition to this material, much of the dress’s details were made from upcycled organza, which yet again emphasizes this push for sustainable fashion. This dress also embodies a natural fluidity that is iconic to Iris Van Herpen's designs but also reflects Magnum’s iconic melting chocolate. There are also many plantlike and copper-coated embellishments woven throughout the design.

Embodying Sustainability
When it comes to sustainability, this collaboration between Magnum and Iris Van Herpen showcases sustainability in an entirely new form, which is what makes this collision of ice cream and haute couture so special and exciting. This collaboration not only reflects innovation and creativity, but it also emphasizes both Magnum’s and Iris Van Herpen’s dedication to sustainability. As expressed by Iris Van Herpen when discussing the collaboration,“I am honored to have been approached by Magnum ice cream as a partner to bring to life the Magnum Vegan Dress. As a designer, I have always worked to push the boundaries of design” and “the opportunity to work with the brand on such an innovation in sustainable fashion has been a very special experience.”
