Artknit was founded in 2018 in Biella, “The Capital of Wool.” Everything is possible when you are in Biella, recognised as the world’s prime manufacturers area in the textile district of the Italian pre-Alpine valleys, a landscape that has been deeply committed to textile culture for centuries. Along with its beautiful Italian views, it's an extraordinary place where everything began with a strong vocation for quality and sustainability. There, the new standards of The Modern House of Knitwear are being setted, because Artknit Studios creates beautiful high-quality pieces that are not bound to trends. The knitted styles of the Italian brand are elegant and timeless and, thus, were ‘en vogue’ for the last decades and will be for the ones to come.

Sustainable materials and craftsmanship

Since its inception, Artknit has always leveraged the Italian ecosystem of small enterprises and digital practices to create non-seasonal and democratic products, as Alessandro Lovisetto – Artknit Studios’ founder– says: “We want to move things in the right direction by providing to our community direct access to superior quality products at the lowest environmental impact.” Artknit exists to connect small artisanal workshops with each other and with the final customers to give them the tools to evolve and thrive in today’s society. They aim to design new sustainable processes, protect craftsmen’s heritage and embed innovation to have a significant impact on today’s challenges.

With full transparency, they want to share with the community the whole story behind every single product, because that helps to understand the effects of their decisions and motivate them to make better ones. Regarding their values, there are three three pillars on which this beautiful and noble brand stands. Firstly, fewer and longer-lasting products: the company was founded with the aim to leverage digital practices and superior quality materials to create fewer and longer-lasting products at the best value –for the makers, for the planet and for you. Secondly, the need to democratize luxury: they want to move things in the right direction by providing their community direct access to high-quality products made by the best Italian manufacturers at true cost. Consequently, the last one is ethical production: as they believe in sustainability in terms of growth; they only partner with Italian manufacturers that comply with their vision and values, while committing to a zero-waste production process. That’s also why they only produce in small quantities, not because they like waitlists, but because they firmly believe in quality over quantity. With their neutral color palette consisting of beige, white, black, brown, grey and dark blue hues, the Artknit Studio pieces are guaranteed to become your everyday favorites, and their quality is guaranteed to become timeless. They have different materials, such as Linen & Organic Cotton, Extrafine Merino Wool, Grade A Cashmere and Upcycled Cashmere.

Organic Italian cotton

Their GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified organic cotton comes from Egypt, where the best cotton quality was born, but it gets spun in Italy and its whole journey is traced, from the seed up to the yarn. Organic cotton is a natural fiber that doesn’t include the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds (GMOs) during its production. It’s a more sustainable solution also because it saves a lot of water during its cultivation, compared to standard cotton. It’s a great option not only for the planet but also for you, as it’s known - and loved - for its hypoallergenic, absorbency, and durability properties. Also, their fine linen blend yarns, made of 65% linen and 35% organic cotton, are spun by Servizi Seta in Biella, Italy. Their linen is OEKO-TEX, OCS and European Flax certified to guarantee the highest quality at the lowest impact on the environment.

The characteristics of a natural fiber such as linen, capable of absorbing moisture, combined with the hypoallergenic, breathable and comfortable function of organic cotton, make the finished garment versatile and with a unique stylistic rendering. Let’s explore some of our favorite pieces.

Artknit designed the beautiful Long-Sleeve Linen Cotton Polo for men, knitted from naturally breathable and lightweight linen, with a vintage neck and no buttons. With a relaxed open collar, the vintage polo is perfect for day and night due to its elegance and fresh look.

The Extrafine Merino Woolyarns are OEKO-TEX and Woolmark certified and come from two of the most renowned wool makers in the world: Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia and Tollegno 1900, both based in Biella’s textile district. Extrafine Merino Wool is a natural fiber grown by Merino sheep from Australia and New Zealand. Their yarns get spun by some of the most renowned certified mills around Biella, at zero miles from our headquarters, to lower our emissions and guarantee you the highest quality yarns. Also, their Cashmere is grade A quality, which is the best kind you can find in nature with a pure fiber of 14 -16.5 microns thickness and 42mm length. These properties make it extremely lightweight, incredibly soft, and unbelievably warm. It comes from Kashmir goats in the Mongolian highlands, but it gets spun in Italy in certified mills around Biella, zero miles from our headquarters. Here, The Merino Wool Skirt reveals a solid design with a splendid fall of the knitted material.

Last but not least, Upcycled Cashmere is as soft and warm as virgin cashmere being made by 100% pure cashmere fibers, but it comes with a 92% reduction in its environmental impact. It comes from the industrial excesses of cashmere fibers and it gets spun in Biella’s Textile District, Italy, at zero miles from our headquarter, to lower our emissions and guarantee you the highest quality yarns. Here we have The Cashmere Turtleneck in pink, lightweight knit, no appliqués or pockets, long sleeves, and a solid color.
