New project - The Line

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, has revealed the project known as The Line, which is a proposed 200-meter wide (656 feet) and 500-meter high (1640 feet) mirrored building that will span for 100 miles. It will be a vertical city – an urban utopia – that is said to provide 9 million people with housing.

This specific project falls under the plan for NEOM, a proposed smart city that was first announced in 2017. It has been said that The Line will run and function entirely with renewable energy sources and will have no roads, no cars, and no carbon emissions. The vertical city will also have a regulated microclimate, and daily life will function with the aid of artificial intelligence. There are even supposed to be robot maids and flying taxis in this utopia-like city. It has also been said that the residents of this vertical city will have all their daily needs reachable in a 5-minute long walk at most. If you want to explore the other end of the building, there will also be a high-speed rail that can take you from one end of the complex to the other in just a mere 20 minutes.

A way to coexist with nature

As stated by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, the designs “will challenge the traditional flat, horizontal cities and create a model for nature preservation and enhanced human livability”.

The Line will address the challenges facing humanity in urban life today and will provide alternative ways to live. Prince Mohammed claimed that The Line will be the world’s “most liveable city by far” and envisions NEOM to replace the ever diminishing standards of living and provide residents with a way of life that is sustainable, efficient, and healthy. He also expressed that the main purpose of building Neom is “to raise the capacity of Saudi Arabia, get more citizens and more people in Saudi Arabia.”The NEOM could help generate 380,000 jobs, which would be highly helpful due to the population boom of these years.
