Unsurprisingly, sustainable expert Marte Hentschel is part of the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit. She is an extraordinary leader within the T&C industry. If you don't know her already, you will be glad you stumbled across this article as she's an inspiring woman you will want to know. The planet needs change-makers with a vision of a better world who have the power to make a positive impact and create a better world, and Marte does just that.
Marte is a kick-ass tech entrepreneur and the CEO at Sqetch, a software provider and innovation agency. Sqetch help to search, connect and manage textile and clothing production all in one place. Aside from being a successful entrepreneur, she is a fashion designer and a supply chain transparency advocate. She is a true leader dedicated to sustainability in the textile and clothing industry and making positive changes.
Marte explained that while studying fashion design at university, she had the chance to visit a large garment factory in Cambodia. Visiting the factory and seeing an unethical supply chain first-hand was eye-opening for her. At this point, she realised this was wrong; it wasn't sustainable or transparent. "I realised how influential each design decision is for the lives of farmers, workers, families and communities in the production regions. Design for supply chain sustainability wasn't a topic when I studied in the early 2000s," Marte replies.
From that moment, sustainability played an essential part in her life. "That experience made me move from the front end of fashion - design, marketing and retail - to the backbone of this industry - production and supply chain”, Marte says.

What is the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit?
Well, for those who don't already know, the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit is a new, exciting initiative that brings people together to create a plan to shape the fashion industry's future. It's an innovative conference for experts, researchers, fashion labels and industry stakeholders to get their creative juices flowing and create an action plan to clean up the industry and make it more sustainable.
Studio MM04 organised the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit, and Sqetch is one of the cooperation partners behind it, along with the Beneficial Design Institute. The new conference brings the fashion plan of the future in line with the climate goals.
During this summit, participating speakers like Marte have the chance to discuss and debate the fashion industry's future. It is so crucial that the fashion industry cleans up its act. Why? Well, because the 2020s are destined to become the decade of global change-making. The summit's primary goal is to bridge the gap between existing sustainability innovations and create solutions within the fashion industry. Creating an action plan is vital for us, the industry, the planet and future generations.
“The digital and sustainable transformation of fashion to become net positive needs interdisciplinary collaboration. The solutions are there but aren't interconnected enough to unleash their potential. Sqetch brings in a global network of companies and organisations from all stages of the value chain to initialise collaborations in a pre-competitive environment”
Without a doubt, Marte is passionate about tech and transparency in the T&C industry. Marte explains that she wanted to be part of the 202030 Berlin Fashion Summit to work with industry leaders to solve problems together. "Although Sqetch is an IT startup that helps fashion brands and manufacturers to collaborate digitally, we know that true innovation needs safe spaces, trusted enablers and inspiring environments," says Marte. She goes on to explain that she wanted to join the conference to represent her; IT company, Sketch and educate others on the tech industry, which is the future.
Without a doubt, Marte can inspire people to make positive and impactful changes. We're sure the action plan at the summit will positively impact the industry and the planet. Marte tells us her summit's main goal was to collaborate, regenerate and transform the fashion industry.
