Since 2015, companies and organizations around the world are innovating new ways to meet the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals. Why are businesses important for achieving these targets and how can they act on different goals? Let’s dive into it.

Staiy promotes sustainable development goals (SDGs), a new agenda for 2030 that may help climate change and poverty

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development aims for “a world of universal respect for human rights and human dignity, the rule of law, justice, equality and non-discrimination”. Recognising and acting on the agenda is rooted in the belief that vulnerable communities must be a part of all development processes.

Aiming to put this belief into practice, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the UN, which provided a roadmap for only countries initially. However, considering the reach and impact of businesses, the responsibility of businesses to achieve sustainable development is also now recognised and emphasized.

To embrace this responsibility and show their commitment to SDGs, the UN Global Compact has urged businesses to embody its ten principles. These principles include supporting and respecting human rights and labor rights, embracing environmentally sound practices and technologies, and working against all forms of corruption.  Besides inculcating these principles, your business can work on each SDG separately to increase its impact. Here is how Staiy engages with some of these goals.

Quick guide to the SDGs and Staiy committment to the sustainable development goals

Staiy’s commitment to the SDGs: because we care

Understanding the shared responsibility toward our sustainable growth, Staiy has prioritized 5 goals: Access to Clean Water (Goal 6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Climate Action (Goal 13) and Life on Land (Goal 15).

The achievement of the goals is linked to the accurate selection of brands that Staiy makes through its strict sustainability evaluation.

Access to Clean Water (Goal 6).

Staiy is aiming to make a positive impact on water consumption and waste treatment by reducing pollution, eliminating waste dumping, and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals in the water. We also have a target of halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and increasing the recycling and reuse of water globally.

Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8).

Staiy is highly committed to enhancing inclusivity and diversity. Equal opportunities are always provided to Staiy’s employees in order to increase productiveness and overall wellness.

Responsible Consumption and Production & Climate Action (Goal 12 & 13).

Staiy aims to achieve sustainable management and make efficient use of our natural resources. Conservation of natural resources is also directly linked with climate action under Goal 13. Staiy aims to take specific measures for this goal by building our capacity and resilience, as well as of our stakeholders, against natural disasters and climate-related hazards.

Life on Land (Goal 15).

Staiy aims to contribute to this goal by ensuring the conservation and restoration of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services such as forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands in alignment with international agreements on these precious resources.

Partnership for the Goals (Goal 17).

We at Staiy collaborate with many organizations in order to spread our impact as best as possible and achieve goal 17 as well. Just to mention an example, Staiy has currently a partnership with One Tree Planted to empower women in Rwanda, restore the Amazon rainforest in Peru, protect endangered wildlife in Indonesia, and provide a source of water in Kenya.
