Shio

Founded by designer Kate Pinkstone, Shio is a sustainable fashion label with a store and studio in Neukoelln, Berlin. Kate is passionate about an ethical supply chain and sews each garment in her atelier using natural materials carefully sourced from Europe. Using eco-linen, organic cotton, and upcycled cotton, Shio’s core styles are repeated season after season to promote slow fashion and sustainability themes. The Shio label offers modern essentials for everyday wear, starting with classic, timeless silhouettes. In the store, you'll also find the Shio Upcycled line, a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces made from leftover fabrics or textiles from thrift stores and flea markets. Kate often uses her patterns from the Shio label to offer her classic Shio shapes in textured or printed leftover fabrics.

Shio focuses on sustainability and believes that clothing should be made with care to last. They've made it their mission to minimize both waste and environmental impact. For this reason, Shio created a small collection of scrunchies, made from leftover fabrics. Shio’s leftover fabrics are eco linen, upcycled cotton or organic cotton, making Shio’s scrunchies soft and comfortable while giving you an effortless, cute look. The Shio Navy Linen and Black Linen scrunchies are the basics of scrunchies, so they go with everything, the Shio Olive Linen and the Shio Walnut Linen scrunchies reveal a cool earthy vibe, perfect for a photoshoot in nature, or in your favorite garden. The Shio Cream Canvas scrunchies are to wear with your favorite summer white dress, and finally, the Shio Block Print Upcycled Cotton scrunchies will give you an unconventional stylish look that will make you embrace your uniqueness.

Valentina Vasilatou

Valentina Vasilatou is a new swimwear brand with an artistic approach that uses eco-friendly leftover fabrics scraps. As we are not in the swimsuit season yet, let’s focus on Valentina Vasilatou’s stunning scrunchies made from leftover fabrics. But what are these leftover fabrics? Well, Valentina Vasilatou uses an innovative textile production technique transforming plastic waste into new materials, and using these regenerated fabrics to create their products.

In collaboration with Healthy Seas, a non-profit eco-organization, Valentina Vasilatou strives to minimize their environmental footprint. Indeed, Healthy Seas collects ghost fishing nets through underwater cleanups and ensures they're regenerated into brand new nylon yarn that Valentina Vasilatou uses in their swimwear. To produce their scrunchies, Valentina Vasilatou takes the leftover fabrics from their swimwear so there is no waste in the whole process.

Looking into their gorgeous collection, the Valentina Vasilatou Zebra Anemone Solo scrunchies and the Zebra Anemone Group scrunchies are gray with strong touches of red and black, the Valentina Vasilatou Nudi Chromo Solo scrunchies give a softer look in a cream color base, with thin lines of yellow and light blue. Finally, the Valentina Vasilatou Emperor Angelfish Solo scrunchies have a black base with harmoniously drawn lines of white and deep blue.

All of Valentina Vasilatou’s scrunchies are an interesting mix of colors reminding us of the beauty of the sea and ocean. These scrunchies are the perfect accessory to add to your Valentina Vasilatou swimwear piece at the beach. Not only is the design mermaid-like, but the leftover fabrics are soft, durable, and comfortable to wear.

Such brands can also inspire you to create pieces for yourself while contributing to the reduction of deadstock materials or surplus stock. You can purchase leftover fabric scraps from fabric shops and some thrift shops, and produce a custom piece for yourself, by sewing it yourself or asking a seamstress to help you.
