Biking is one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transportation, as most of us already know. According to studies, cycling emits only five grams of CO2 per km, about ten times less than driving a car. The recent increase in biking during the COVID-19 has further highlighted the advantages of selecting a bike over a car, including benefits to health and the environment.

We at Staiy are here to help you make your biking this summer more fashionable to increase the use of this great alternative transportation.

Road cyclists, with their aerodynamic, breathable helmets, spandex shorts suits, and testosterone scandals, have different priorities than recreational riders. Many of the more established cycling brands can appear intimidating as they cater more to triathletes rather than the casual commuter in a crop top. It is reasonable to assume that quarantine affected this trend.

Ely Khakshouri, CEO and founder of the LA-based company Retrospec, that creates electric and minimalist bikes inspired by fashion and lifestyle, explains how trends are changing. “One aspect of the bike industry that has really appealed to me is how little fantastic design there is”, says Khakshouri. She indeed believes that “a large number of established bike brands create their products for the serious biker, and the bikes all seem to have a similar feel; and a lot of the time they feel a little daunting and don't really go with other components of our lifestyle, other things we use and consume”.

Here’s what you can do to adapt biking to your personality:

1. Looking fashionable for a park biking trip

You can surely choose a stylish sports bra and bike shorts combination, if your only plan is to ride around in the wide outdoors, which can be completed with a windbreaker and a pair of playful but athletic badass socks. Make sure that you have your crossbody bag or your cute backpack to complete the look, and of course some refreshments in it.

2. Looking fashionable while biking to work

Even if an outfit for the commute to work may be the most important one (no one wants to spend eight hours in a sweaty button-down), it doesn't have to be the most challenging. Invest in a barrel bag that clips onto the front of your handlebars and unfolds to become a satchel that you won't feel awkward using to go to work. Sleeveless outfits are a fantastic choice as well, but if you're concerned about sweating, bring a spare top. Check out this sleeveless piece from Saenguin here at Staiy. And for when you get there, be sure to have a can of dry shampoo on hand along with a deodorant to up your style and soak up any leftover sweat from your hair and clothes.

3. Looking fashionable for a date

Pulling your button-down off your shoulders (or, alternately, wearing it backward or experimenting with knotting) will help it feel a little sexier, and stacked necklaces with a blue bra will add some heat. Additionally, just because a shoe is supportive and practical does not mean that style must be sacrificed. The best of both worlds is available at Staiy in Bohema in the form of a variety of padded, clunky sandals.

Don’t sacrifice your style “just” because you’re biking!
